ATHENS, ALABAMA — A 44-year-old woman, identified as Michelle Lee Turner, was found dead inside an Athens apartment early Saturday morning, and police later arrested her former boyfriend in connection with the case.
Athens Police said officers were called to the Fifth Avenue Apartments at 700 Fifth Ave. at approximately 12:52 a.m. after receiving a request for assistance.
When officers entered the residence and went to a bedroom, they found Turner deceased.
Investigation Leads to Arrest
Following the discovery, Athens Police detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding Turner’s death.
Investigators developed information that led them to Calvin Troup, whom authorities identified as Turner’s ex-boyfriend.
Troup was located in Decatur and taken into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Athens Police Department as detectives continued their investigation.
Authorities later charged Troup with capital murder in connection with Turner’s death.
Troup Transferred to Limestone County Custody
After his arrest and processing by Athens Police, Troup was transferred to the custody of the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
Police have not publicly released the evidence that led investigators to Troup or provided a detailed account of what allegedly happened inside the apartment.
