Toronto police have identified Mohamud Kheyre, 30, as the man whose body was discovered inside a burning vehicle in Etobicoke earlier this month.
Kheyre was found after officers and emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire near Royal York Road and Edenbridge Drive shortly before 1 a.m. on September 22, 2026.
His identification was announced by the Toronto Police Service on September 27 as investigators continued working to determine who was responsible for his death.
Kheyre Found Inside Burning Vehicle
Police were called to a parking lot in the Royal York Road and Edenbridge Drive area at approximately 12:55 a.m. Tuesday.
A vehicle was already on fire when emergency crews arrived. Once the fire was extinguished, investigators discovered a deceased person inside.
The victim was initially unidentified while police worked to establish his identity.
Five days later, investigators identified him as 30-year-old Mohamud Kheyre.
Police Say Kheyre Was Shot
The investigation subsequently determined that Kheyre had suffered a fatal gunshot wound before the vehicle was set on fire.
Police have not released details identifying the person responsible for the shooting or explained what led to the killing.
A motive has also not been publicly established.
The circumstances surrounding Kheyre’s death remain under investigation by Toronto police.
Another Man Found in Burning Vehicle
Kheyre’s death is being investigated alongside a separate homicide involving 32-year-old Marcus Charles.
